Making it from scratch was a cinch, especially since I already had the carrots and celery chopped, ready, and waiting in the freezer.   1. You need of Green split peas.
  2. Prepare of Leek, sliced.

  5. You need of Celery stalks, diced.

  7. It's of Smoked ham bones (or bacon bones).
  8. Prepare of Piece of smoked ham.
  9. Prepare of Cracked black pepper to taste.

Add remaining ingredients except croutons to slow cooker. Add watercress, then blend until combined but with a chunky texture (do this in batches if you like). Return to the pan, check seasoning and. While peas are simmering, heat oil in a large skillet over high heat until shimmering.

Chunky Pea & Ham Soup instructions

  1. Soak split peas for 6 hours or over night..
  2. Drain, rinse and add to large pot. Cover with cold water..
  3. Bring to the boil then gently simmer until peas start to break up..
  4. Whilst waiting for that to happen- throw carrots, leek and celery in a large heavy base pan and fry until softened (not browned)..
  5. Add celery, leek and carrots to the peas along with potatoes, bay leaves, ham bones and ham..
  6. Keep it simmering for around an eternity until the smell makes you salivate and soup is thickened..
  7. Remove ham piece, chop it up and throw it back in..
  8. I like to leave the bones in but you can remove if wanted. Nothing beats sucking on a bacon bone whilst you eat your soup (for me). Crack some black pepper, top with some chopped celery leaves and serve with crusty bread. Enjoy!.
